About the Author
Ali Al Hazmi, born in 1970 in Damad, Saudi Arabia, is a prominent
Arabic poet. He graduated from Umm Al-Qura University in 1992 with a
degree in Arabic Language and Literature. His poetry career began in
1985, with works published in various cultural periodicals such as The
Seventh Day in Paris, Creativity in Cairo, Nazoa in Amman, and The New
Text.
Al Hazmi has participated in international poetry festivals in Costa Rica,
Spain, Uruguay, Cuba, Colombia, Turkey and Romania, among others.
His bibliography spans over three decades, starting with A Gate for the
Body in 1993. His latest book, A Lonely Branch for Singing, was released in
2023. His poetry, exploring themes like loss and identity, has been
translated into multiple languages.
He has received several awards, including the Medal of Poetry in
Uruguay in 2015, the World Grand Prize for Poetry in Romania in 2017,
the Verbumlandi Prize in Italy in 2017, and the Global Icon Award in Italy
in 2020. His poetry is accessible on Google Assistant through a
partnership with Google. Bridging traditional Arabic poetry and
contemporary culture, Al Hazmi’s work speaks directly to the needs of
the world of today.
