The Orpheus Texts Literary Translator of the Year, 2023, is awarded to the Taiwanese translator Chien Jui-ling, “in recognition of outstanding contribution to the world of literature through exceptional translation work. Her dedication, passion, and skill have transcended linguistic barriers, enabling readers to engage deeply with diverse narratives from across the globe.”

Chien Jui-ling, also known as Nuria Chien, is a Spanish-language translator, a teacher and a poet, born in southern Taiwan. She is currently Secretary of the College of Foreign Languages at Providence University, a part-time professor of Spanish at National Chung-Hsing University and a doctoral candidate in the Department of Language and Literature Education at the National Taichung University of Education.

She has served as an interpreter at the Formosa International Poetry Festival and has been the subject of an interview on the Peru-based “El Ombligo de Adam” radio program. She has translated several poetry collections and a Taiwan-themed novel into Spanish. Her work is subsidized by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture.
