The Orpheus Texts Artist of the Year, 2023, is awarded to the Italian artist Silla Campanini, “for her influential feminist-themed paintings, profoundly impacting the global discourse on women’s rights and more.

Silla Campanini, born in Italy’s Bologna province, is a multifaceted artist known for her lifelong dedication to art and education. From an early age, she displayed a keen interest in science, the natural world, and the spectrum of colors. Throughout her life, she has held diverse roles, including technical consultant, image educator, and founder of an art school. Silla’s international recognition includes her membership in the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, leadership positions in the “Writers Capital Foundation,” and roles as a global coordinator and advisor for international arts festivals. She is a valued member of the Munir Mezyed International Foundation for Arts and Culture.

Her artistic versatility spans visual art, sculpture, and poetry, and she has curated literary anthologies and promoted fellow artists. Silla is celebrated for her originality and metaphysical nature. In 2023, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Writers Capital Foundation, solidifying her status as a distinguished artist and educator with a global impact.


Journalist of the Year, 2023

The Orpheus Texts Journalist of the Year, 2023, is Awarded to the Romanian journalist Camelia Văcaru, “for exemplary journalism that embodies integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to truth and societal enlightenment.

Camelia Văcaru, a graduate of the Faculty of Journalism and Commu-nication Sciences at the University of Bucharest in 2006, boasts a distinguished career in television spanning nearly two decades. Her journey in the media industry has seen her evolve from a reporter to a producer and presenter, showcasing a vast array of skills including organization, time management, and creativity. Văcaru’s extensive experience in cultural journalism has enabled her to effectively disseminate quality information and cater to the emotional needs of viewers.

Despite her long-standing career, she remains committed to continuous learning and applies her acquired knowledge to enhance the shows she works on for Romanian Public Television. Since July 2013, Văcaru has been a key figure in promoting the stories, culture, and traditions of ethnic minorities in Romania. She hosts the live broadcast of the Conviețuiri show every Wednesday on TVR 1, demonstrating her passion for video editing and cultural projects.

Her involvement in television extends beyond hosting, as she actively participates in all aspects of production, including field filming, text editing, voice-over, and video editing. Văcaru’s dedication to her work reflects her desire to fully immerse herself in every project, making her a versatile and accomplished professional in the field of journalism and television.


Poet of the Year, 2023

The Orpheus Texts Poet of the Year, 2023, is awarded to the Taiwanese poet Lin, Sheng-Bin, “for illuminating the human experience with profound verse and enriching the tapestry of our collective consciousness through the power of poetry.

Taiwanese poet and scholar Lin, Sheng-Bin taught at the Department of Spanish Literature at Tamkang University until 2022. His current pursuits include literature and aesthetic research, painting and poetry. He holds a PhD in Spanish Literature from the Complutense University of Madrid, in Chinese Literature from Tamkang University, and in History of Art from the University Sorbonne Paris IV. From 2001 to 2005, he served as the editor of Taiwan-based Li Poetry, a bi-monthly magazine founded in 1964.


Translator of the Year, 2023

The Orpheus Texts Literary Translator of the Year, 2023, is awarded to the Taiwanese translator Chien Jui-ling, “in recognition of outstanding contribution to the world of literature through exceptional translation work. Her dedication, passion, and skill have transcended linguistic barriers, enabling readers to engage deeply with diverse narratives from across the globe.

Chien Jui-ling, also known as Nuria Chien, is a Spanish-language translator, a teacher and a poet, born in southern Taiwan. She is currently Secretary of the College of Foreign Languages at Providence University, a part-time professor of Spanish at National Chung-Hsing University and a doctoral candidate in the Department of Language and Literature Education at the National Taichung University of Education.

She has served as an interpreter at the Formosa International Poetry Festival and has been the subject of an interview on the Peru-based “El Ombligo de Adam” radio program. She has translated several poetry collections and a Taiwan-themed novel into Spanish. Her work is subsidized by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture.


Writer of the Year, 2023

The Orpheus Texts Writer of the Year, 2023, is awarded to the Ukrainian writer Yuri Andrukhovych, “In honor of his outstanding contribution to literature, crafting narratives that challenge, inspire, and resonate across generations.

Yuri Andrukhovych, born on March 13, 1960, is a distinguished Ukrainian polymath renowned for his contributions to literature and academia. With a strong foundation in education, he graduated from the Ukrainian Printing Institute in Lvov’s editorial department in 1982 and later completed literary courses at the Literary Institute M. Gorky in Moscow in 1991. His early career encompassed journalism and military service.

Andrukhovych rose to prominence as the leader of the avant-garde poetry group “Bu-Ba-Boo” in 1985, bringing innovation to the literary scene. Since 1991, his literary prowess has graced the pages of Ukraine’s leading literary magazines. His repertoire includes poetic collections like “Sky and Plains” (1985) and compelling novels such as “Recreations” (1992) and “Moscoviad” (1993). Beyond his creative writing, he is celebrated for his insightful essays and translations, including the Ukrainian version of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” (2000) and anthologies featuring American, Polish, German, and Russian poetry.

Andrukhovych’s literary prowess has transcended borders, with his works translated and published internationally in Poland, Germany, Canada, Hungary, Finland, Croatia, the USA, Sweden, Spain, Russia, and Austria. His profound influence extends far beyond Ukraine, solidifying his status as a significant and influential figure in contemporary literature.
