Mundus Artium Press Names So Long by Sun Hyang Kim as The Orpheus Texts Book of the Year 2025

Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Richardson, Texas, August 15, 2025 — Mundus Artium Press, housed at The University of Texas at Dallas, today announced that So Long, a collection of poems by Korean poet Sun Hyang Kim translated into English by the author and Dean  J. Ouellette, has been selected as the winner of the Orpheus Texts Book of the Year Award 2025.

The award recognizes So Long for its lyrical mastery and historical resonance. Drawing from Kim’s trilogy—Poetry Diary (2012), Golden Rose (2021), and That Day, That Flower (2024)—the anthology distills over a decade of poetic achievement. Critics have noted Kim’s ability to fuse intimate personal confession with reflections on the turbulent modern history of Korea, from the tragedy of the Korean War to the enduring quest for reconciliation between North and South.

Born in the North and resettled in the South, Kim’s work captures the complexity of identity and belonging in a divided nation. Her pioneering “Poetry Diary” style blends simplicity with depth, embracing both fleeting moments and enduring truths. One reviewer observed, “Her vision, able to embrace both the fleeting and the eternal, reflects the sensibility of a poet and the perspective of a historian.”
